The area of the Waikele Watershed is 48.2 square miles (124.8 square km), with maximum elevation of 3045 ft (928 m). The watershed's DAR cluster code is 7, meaning that the watershed is very large, steep in the upper watershed, and with large embayments. The percent of the watershed in the different land use districts is as follows: 46% agricultural, 27% conservation, 0% rural, and 27% urban. Also 21.1% of the watershed is permanently protected, 22.4% is protected but unmanaged, and 56.4% is unprotected. 

In Hawaii species came, rarely, by wind, wing, or water and many did not survive. Natural selection and time allowed for these species to evolve and Hawaii has many species that are found no where else in the world.
